Real Wedding: Olivia + Michael

Reflecting back on Olivia and Michael’s magical day - brings us much inspiration for future oceanfront celebrations! From the incredible white sand beaches where the couple first met to the tropical inspired reception decor, this was an absolutely unforgettable day!

It was important to the couple to incorporate locally sourced flowers. Olivia, wore a beautiful, multiple strand Pikake flower lei which gracefully adorned her open back wedding  dress. The Pikake flower is from the jasmine family and is an incredibly delicate and heavenly fragrant flower. This flower lei was a favorite of Hawaiian princess Kaiulani and is believed to be a part of the old courtship ritual. The flower crown, and the couple's stunning floral arch, were all locally sourced flowers as well. The many mini pineapples  used for the groom and groomsmen boutonnieres as well as the reception décor was the perfect tropical touch!

One of the most special moments of the day had to be the hula dances performed by Olivia, her mother, cousins, and niece in honor of her late father - surprising Michael for a tear jerking reception! This beautifully heartwarming couple and family were a joy to work with and we at Belle Destination Events are so thrilled to have Olivia and Michael’s ocean front celebration featured on 100 Layer Cake, spreading their beautiful Hawaiian love story for all to be inspired by!

Take a peek below at all of the gorgeous love filled details!

Real Wedding: Deirdre & Darryl

When it comes to your wedding day, it’s all about bringing your unique vision to life. Whether you gravitate towards a bold, colorful aesthetic, or a relaxed, rustic design, you can be sure that the Hawaiian coast is the perfect canvas ready to be transformed. Deirdre and Darryl’s romantic Hawaiian nuptials were nothing short of spectacular—and definitely a personal favorite in our book! From the floral arch draped in sheer white linens to the outdoor tent with suspended chandeliers, their décor and design epitomizes the perfect island wedding. The ceremony was quite simply picturesque, and full of romance. We adore weddings that transition into the night, and Deirdre and Darryl's reception was no exception. The couple danced the night away with friends and family, soaking up every last minute of their special day. Even though you just can’t beat the Hawaiian sunset, at the end of the day, it’s all about love and laughter. We couldn’t be happier for these two. Enjoy!

Beautiful Maui Wedding For Zack and Joann

Talk about an amazing love story! These two were clearly crazy about each other form the moment we began planning their wedding, but it wasn’t until later in the wedding planning process when we found out their incredibly interesting love story! Here’s the short story, but see more on their fabulous Maui wedding at the Olowalu Plantation House in the Style Me Pretty Destination Blog.

So here is the short version. Joann and Zack met at a golf course...started dating...stopped dating...some time passes...Zack is in a terrible accident and goes into a coma! People, this is not made up, but yet does sort of sound like a crazy soap opera story...but we swear it is true! When she heard about the accident, Joann of course came immediately to his bedside, realizing that she loves this man. Then...he comes out of his coma, and although he had lost some of his memory, but remembers Joann right away! They fall back in love all over again, and then the story ends....happily ever after, getting married a the ocean’s edge in Maui!

Ahhh (sigh), romance!!!! I feel a Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks movie coming on! What a privilege it was to be a part of planning this special day for these two nostalgic love birds! It is obvious the two were meant to be, and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store for them. Congratulations Joann & Zack!

PS: Can we hashtag #bestlovestoryever on a blog? :)

XOXO, Belle

Chinese-American Wedding at the Haiku Mill Maui

Marysa & David's Romantic Maui Wedding At the Haiku Mill

Marysa & David exchanged vows at the Haiku Mill  - It was a perfectly small gathering between their closest family and friends. The festivities started with a Chinese Tea-Ceremony as the Bride and Groom wanted to incorporate some of David's family traditions into the day. The Tea-Ceremony was followed by a beautiful traditional Western wedding ceremony & dinner reception. Marysa loves everything French so touches of Chinoiserie  were infused into the wedding decor.  Chinese tin-tins, pops of red, gold colors and geometric patterns made up the wedding decor. For more amazing photos Check out Style Me Pretty's blog today where this gorgeous Maui wedding is featured!

Multicultural Destination Wedding at the Haiku Mill

Special Touches Make This Maui Wedding Special

This gorgeous Bride and Groom (who preferred to remain anonymous) had a very specific vision of what they wanted their guests to experience. Their vision was very much based on feeling and emotion as opposed to using tangible images as a source of inspiration.  Their wish was to create the perfect backdrop to their love story, by transforming the gorgeously rustic Haiku Mill into a haven of comfort.  They wanted very much for everything to feel natural, and to simply accent the already incredible natural brick, vine, weathered rock and wood of the Mill's interior.

In addition to their wish list of feelings that they wanted conveyed, the couple also wished to incorporate elements of the Groom's Indian heritage within the event as well, without too much of the amplified opulence of a traditional Indian wedding. Adding ceremonial Hindu rituals, such as the puja ritual (offerings), allowed for their closest friends and family to actively participate in the ceremony, adding a very important feeling of intimacy to their event.  Their hands were wrapped together with a red sash as they performed the Saptapadi (Sanskrit for seven steps) around the Holy Fire (Agni).  With each step, the groom's aunt called out a vow to establish aspects of a happy relationship and household for each other.

To create the setting they envisioned, we set up plush Turkish rugs, tons of accent pillows, coffee tables, varied vintage decor pieces, side tables, and nick knacks, giving the Mill's lounge areas the feel of an exotic living room.  The dining tables themselves were all unique and inviting, accenting different elements of glass, drift wood, overflowing arrangements of flowers and fruit, and candles, candles, candles!  Instead of mounting a temporary trellis, the oh-so talented Bella Bloom attached individual vines and blooms to the existing vines that crawled up the entry way to the Mill.  Instead of bringing in glassware for the accent arrangements, we utilized the weathered and moss-covered ceramic urns from the Mill itself, and filled them with an abundance of flowers, falling over the edges to add on over-grown affect.  Captured by the very-talented Rebecca & Jonathon Tamiz Photography.

Makena Wedding at the Sugarman Estate Maui

Kate and Andrew - Maui Wedding

Houston (in true Texas form), is known for their BIG weddings.  However, the LA based /Houston native bride-to-be, Kate, and her fiancé Andrew, sought the solace of a more peaceful and intimate soiree on the island of Maui.  The relaxed and laid back couple chose Andrew's birthday for the celebration, and the Sugarman Estate as their venue, utilizing the vast ocean-front lawn for this incredible event.  And a very happy birthday it was!  The 100 guest event was situated at the ocean's edge, as sea turtles popped their heads out the ocean, and the waves of the Pacific splashed nearby.  Oh how amazing!  With the help of Kate's mother, Mary, the planning was a blast!  With Mary's refined Texas taste, and Kate's adventurous spirit, we blended the styles to create an updated, modern, elegant, yet dramatic event.  Aside from the stunningly gorgeous bride, the dramatic centerpiece of this wedding was the strands of orchids dripping from the ceiling.  We were inspired by the canopy of falling flowers in the movie, Twilight, and wanted to incorporate that idea and interpret into Kate's style.  Underneath the Raj tents, situated between the crystal chandeliers, the hanging arrangement floated above the gorgeous tables below.  The opulent flowers were artfully crafted by the o-so-talented, Bella Bloom Floral Boutique, and filled the centers of long tables, draped in champagne silks, and flanked by gold accents.  This truly was an amazing event for an incredible couple!

It's All In The Details

Planning Details Makes Weddings Shine

When it comes to planning a destination wedding, brides must have confidence in their wedding planner's ability to handle all of the technical and logistical planning.  As brides have become more wedding savvy through blogs like Green Wedding Shoes, Ruffled, Pacific Weddings Love Notes and so on, it has challenged coordinators to be stylists as well!

We have always kept a focus on the attention to detail over the years. It’s reflected in every wedding & event that we coordinate and style. It’s fun to challenge ourselves to be at the forefront of the wedding industry trends, as well as, innovators of “never seen before” custom designs (we love a good think tank session!).  It’s that extra step that we take to make each bride feel her wedding is right out of a storybook!

Our team is an ensemble of designers that carry the same passion for style and everything fabulous!  Attending design Wedding Workshops, Industry Events (The Cream, in L.A) participating in Wedding Design Forums and networking with the top wedding design blogs- we bring that to every planning session!  Check out some of our latest weddings & events… it’s all in the details!

Sneak Peek of a Modern Chic Olowalu Wedding

We wanted to share a little sneak peek of Lisa & Hunters wedding which took place at the Olowalu Plantation House this weekend.   The wedding was spectacular, with details everywhere you looked, and a crowd of jet-setting guests from all over the world. Lisa & Hunter were amazing to work with, such an incredibly sweet and gorgeous couple.  We pulled out all the stops for this one; Bella Bloom crafting the "yummy" center pieces, and Tamiz Photography capturing all the forever moments. The entire Belle Team was there to make it come all together (yes, that's us posing for the camera!).  Keep checking back for more details to come. XO,

Our Wedding Featured On Style Me Pretty

The founder and editor, Abby Larsen of Style Me Pretty said that she wants to "Marry this wedding!"  ~ we take that as a huge compliment and of course find ourselves overjoyed to see the feature of our Maui Wedding on the front home page of the well loved wedding blog Style Me Pretty today.

I first met Kristine & Hisashi on a very exciting skype session in January 2011.  Kristine, and American, met Hisashi while working in Tokyo. It was clear from the very beginning, that these two shared an intense love and enthusiasm for each other.  Hisashi exhibited an extraordinary eagerness to marry the woman beside him, and the plan was to bring their families together in one place for the celebration.  The couple chose Maui as the spot to seal the deal, and the planning began. The wedding planning went on hold for a bit after the March 11th, tsunami.  Even riddled by frequent aftershocks, the two remained dedicated to the idea of marrying in Maui, not letting the events that had just unfolded affect their dedication to each other. Kristine’s style inspiration for the wedding was all about bright pastels, playful designs, and the idea of a wedding being a celebration of their union.  The inspiration to use ribbons surfaced, and we ran with it.  We personally crafted multi-colored ribbon table runners (much harder than they sound), curtains of ribbon for displayed photos of the couple, ribbon wrapped place card boards, the list goes on.  It became such a crafty, love-filled event, we had the best time putting it all together!  Gina Meola and her husband Marcus of Gina Meola Photography flew in from Arizona  in to capture the event.

Carol and Nan's Beautiful Maui Wedding

Belle Destination Weddings featured on Love and Lavender

Love and Lavender featured our fairy tale Maui wedding.... Carol and Nan are one of the sweetest, most endearing couples I have ever met. Both very gentle, soft spoken and absolutely giddy with excitement for their big wedding day on beautiful Maui. Their story is quite charming! Carol and Nan are originally from China, had independently moved to the United States three years ago for college, and to learn how to speak English- were they serendipitously crossed paths. All of their friends and family members traveled the long distance from China to be a part of their special day.

In the beginning of the planning process, when Carol shared with me her vision of their wedding, she said she wanted it to be "sweet like candy" and it sure was!  The wedding decor was inspired by a vintage Alice and Wonderland tea-party, which made it really fun and playful. Stacked vintage books and flower filled tea-pots made up the centerpiece decor along with tiered teacups and saucers. The wedding stationary, made up of playing cards was very reminiscent of the Queen of Hearts. "Drink Me" tags adorned cocktail straws and "Eat Me" tags attached to  mini candy favors brought everyone back to the well loved story and adventures  of Alice in Wonderland. Carol and Nan's dream fairy tale wedding came true and they are surely on their way to live happily ever after.

Maui Wedding: Mandy and Peter

If you were perusing through the beautiful wedding blog of Style Me Pretty yesterday, you might have noticed it's Maui Week!

It's always an honor to be showcased as one of Style Me Pretty's feature destination weddings. Photographer Joanna Tano  captures the romance and essence of the word LOVE with our bride, Mandy and groom, Peter.  With the breath-taking backdrop of the Haiku Mill, Mandy looked stunning in her Liancarlo wedding dress and blue Badgley Mischka shoes.

Details were important to this couple, from soft crystals hanging from the tent, to the delicate spray roses placed individually in each glass.  As wedding planners and stylist, we love the attention to detail this wedding brings to life.  Hope you enjoy the photos.

Upcountry Wedding in Kula Maui

Kimerlee and Morgan made their love for each other official in front of their closest family and friends on the grounds of one of Maui's hidden gems. The Pili Lani Estate sits on the slopes of Haleakala in Up Country Maui boasting incredible views of the West Maui Mountains and all of central Maui. This private 17 acre property was exactly what they were looking for, a venue where they could host their intimate group of 17 guests for both their accommodations and a wedding venue, offering an all inclusive laid back vacation for their wedding festivities. The setting was nothing short of spectacular and beautifully captured by Rebecca and Jonathan of Tamiz Photography. The expansive grounds led to a fun photo-shoot with some of the property's amenities such as a swing-set and life size chess board. Photo by Belle Destination Events What did you do last Friday, you ask?  Well, I was privileged to be a part of the Maui wedding of Su-Yin & Tomohisa held at the Farimont Kea Lani resort.  These two make the sweetest couple.   It is obvious to anyone in the same room how much love Su-Yin & Tomo share and how much mutual respect they have for each other.  Their admiration and pride for one another is truly inspiring.  When Su-Yin took on the task of planning her event on her own, she realized quickly that she could use some additional assistance to ensure that everything came together smoothly, so she enlisted the help of Belle Destination Events for On-Site & Consultation Services.  So, as much as I would love to take full credit, this wedding was such a collaborative effort, and Su-Yin came up with most of the artfully crafted D.I.Y. elements.  She scoured Etsy and the shelves of stores for a creative collaboration of color and personalized elements.  She really did an amazing job of binding each element together.

A very large part of the credit must go to San Diego-based floral designer, Karen Tran, whose floral designs and linens were elaborate, stunning, and absolutely impeccable.  Her team did an incredible job transforming the simple room into it's own romantic wonderland. Karen truly brought Su-Yin's vision to life and many of the elements in her inspiration board made it gracefully to the table top.

Guests traveled from all over the globe for this very intimate affair - France, China, Australia, Canada, Cambodia....the list goes on.  They really wanted these guests to feel welcome and thank them for traveling so far to be with them to celebrate this momentous day.

So how about a sneak peak, you ask???  This featured video is actually a "Same-Day Edit" produced by the talented cinematographers of, Aria Studios (based out of Oahu).  This clip was actually shot and edited that same day, and was shown at the wedding reception.  They did an amazing job capturing the excitement of the day.  The photos, shot by Christie Pham (also based out of Oahu), will take about 2 months to post, but this gives us a little taste in the meantime.... Enjoy!

Love & Aloha,

I woke up to fabulous news this morning.  One of our Maui weddings was featured on The Lane!!!!  Back when Belle Destination Events was collaborating with the incredible Beth Helmstetter Events, we had the incredible pleasure of working with Tanasia and Adrian, a couple that was so utterly in love, it was such an emotional experience to see them exchange vows.  Truly a couple that belongs together.

This wedding, captured by Matt Alvarado of Beloved Weddings, was so much fun to plan.  Thank you, Tanasia & Adrian!  We were honored to be a part of your wedding day!

Marla & Gary – unlock the spirit of love on Maui

The Ring

About 7 years ago, when I was just a getting into the wedding business, a wonderful girl named Marla took me under her wing and showed me the ropes of the wedding business on Maui.  I have her to thank for the start of my career as a planner and she has taught me so much along the way.  Unfortunately for the Maui wedding industry, Marla left the wedding business to open her own amazing boutique called Details.

Marla, gorgeous fashionista extraordinaire, met Gary, a boyishly handsome and humorous, at the roulette table in Las Vegas while Marla was visiting for a retail trade show.   Gary was immediately enamored and asked Marla out on a date.  The continued to talk over the phone after they returned to their homes.  Marla, living on Maui, and Gary was living in Seattle.  It took about a year before Gary announced that he was packing his bags and moving to Maui to be with Marla.

Since we as planners, know how important it is not to coordinate your own wedding (too much stress!), I had the pleasure of being Marla’s coordinator and was able to repay her for being such a huge part of my career. The planning process was so much fun, and actually very much stress-fee. Marla is one that knows exactly what she wanted form the very beginning which made the planning seamless.

Marla knew immediately that she wanted to hold the event at Haiku Mill, which is a reconstructed sugar mill.  She envisioned a romantic, vintage theme with fall colors, and we decided on a rich chocolate brown, complimented by muted golds and olive greens.  Because Haiku Mill is so rich in ambiance, we wanted to compliment the surroundings without going overboard.  We complimented the venue and the color scheme with dark burgundy dahlias, ivory hydrangea, and wax flower used in the centerpieces and scattered small bud vases.  We mixed in natural dark woods using Manzanita and succulents as well to give it a cooler complimenting tone.

For the décor, we played with strands of crystals underneath the canopy to compliment the existing crystal chandeliers.  Place cards were tea stained by the bride herself and attached to an array of vintage skeleton keys.  All of the table numbers were hand-painted by a wonderful artist from Etsy: Cheryl from My Primitive Boutique

Guests enjoyed simple, yet refined “pupus” by Maui Executive Catering (that’s Hawaiian for hours d’ vours), of Coconut Shrimp, refreshing Lump Crab & Rock Shrimp Summer Rolls, and Grilled Chicken Skewers with Thai Peanut Sauce.  For dinner an incredible buffet of Szechuan Veggies, wok-fired at the buffet, along with Macadamia Nut Encrusted Fresh Mahi Mahi with a Miso Butter Sauce, Hoisin Braised Short Ribs (OMG amazing),  with Wasabi Crème Fraiche, accompanied by Asparagus Risotto with White Truffle Oil and Shaved Parmesan Reggiano.  Ah-maz-ing!

Congratulations Marla & Gary!!! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of these incredible moments in your lives! Love & Aloha - Jane

Hawaii Beach Wedding: Karen & Chase in Paia

Karen and Chase
Karen and Chase

What better place to have a wedding than your very own ocean front, family vacation home on Maui? This gorgeous location was just the perfect setting for Karen and Chase to exchange their vows and party until the late hours of the night!  Their closest friends and family gathered in the back yard of what has got to be one of the most gorgeous views of North Shore Maui nestled right in Paia Bay, Maui.

Wendy and Tyler ofBlue Lily Photography did an amazing job at capturing the magic of the special wedding day and they were so pleasant to work with.

When I first met Karen and Chase during the beginning stage of the wedding planning process, I was instantly excited about working with them. They are a fun, down to earth, hip, young and energetic couple of 2 beautiful kids and needless to say, their wedding day was exactly that!

They chose a black & white and yellow color pallet which was just perfect for this mid summer affair. Aloha Events Catering executed a delectable meal including one of my all time favorite... butternut squash with sage brown butter sauce... so yummy! Fun cocktails like Lahaina Lemon Drop Martinisand Jalapeno Margaritas were tray-passed to thirsty guests during the cocktail hour while the sun was setting behind the West Maui mountains. So many personal touches were made by the crafty bride herself, from hand drawing floral designs on the bar menu to fabricating custom cocktail umbrellas, no detail was overlooked.  The dessert bar was definitely a big hit! Melissa McKelvery, owner ofthe Paia shop Penguini Gelato made dozens of delicious cupcakes all made from scratch using fresh, local ingredients. She also served fresh gelato and sorbet from behind the dessert bar including a watermelon ginger sorbet that was a perfect cooling treat for the wild dancers who ruled the dance floor! The photo-booth was definitely a scene not to be forgotten; roars of laughter could be heard as guests slipped into Hawaiian print shirts and mu-mu's, carrying toy ukulele's and snorkel gear competing for the funniest picture... Itwas a blast! Thank you Karen and Chase for having Belle be a part of your special Hawaii beach wedding!
